There are times in which your iPhone and iPads freezes and you are unable to do anything on the phone or the pad. At this point it is usually very frustrating. This is because it will be impossible to shut it down using the normal power down method. Your gadgets are like mini-computers and a hard reset will solve the problem.
When the device crashes, locks up in a way that prevents it from being turned off or just isn’t working as it should (you’d be surprised at how many problems or strange behaviors can be solved by a simple reset) you need to reset the the device. Here’s how:
- If your iPhone has become so unresponsive that even the Home button does not work, you can force it to restart. Press and hold theSleep/Wake button at the top until a red slider appears. Slide it to power off the device.
Still frozen?
Then do this:
- Begin by holding the sleep/wakebutton at the top right of the device and the Home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
- Hold them both until you see the screen go black. In some cases, you may need to keep holding them even after the red power-off slider appears. If it appears, just keep holding it.
- Wait until the silver Apple logo appears.
- When this happens, you can let go – the iPhone is rebooting.
An device reboot should not normally remove or delete any data or settings. However, the wordreset is also sometimes used to mean deleting all files from the device in order to start over fresh with it . If you read instructions that mention resetting the device, make sure you know which kind of reset you’ll be performing and plan (and perhaps back up!) accordingly.
